I have some SFP+ 10/25Gbe cards from a server. While researching, I saw they’re also referred to as fibre channel cards. As I dug deeper, I’m unsure if my plan will work or if there are any issues. The cards I own are a QLogic MSIP-REM-QLG-AH2010410 model. My goal is to connect one of these to a pfSense device via a cable and link multiple devices using standard RJ45 Ethernet. Am I missing something, or is this setup feasible? (I assume pfSense supports them, but I need confirmation.)
I checked the details and it looks like these cards function as Ethernet instead of fiber channel. The model is a QLogic FastLinQ QL41254HLCU. Appreciate the clarification!
PFSense may require specific network cards, since not all products come with a free installation drive on FreeBSD.
finally resolved the issue. if_qlnxe_load="YES" must be set in /boot/loader.conf (use 'ee /boot/loader.conf') and reboot. ensure pfSense version 2.6.0 or higher is installed. they aren't visible on the console, only accessible via the web interface! i might have spent too much time doubting it before considering a check of the web settings.
