Hello! I currently own a Lenovo y520 laptop that originally comes with 8GB of 2400MHz DDR4 RAM. I also have two additional 2x4GB sticks, all at 2400MHz and DDR4. I’m not sure how to use them yet—I’m still deciding their best configuration. The 8GB and 2x4GB sticks are from different manufacturers. If I install the 2x4GB sticks, they should work in dual-channel mode according to CPU-Z. It also shows a CAS value of 16. If I combine the 1x4GB and 8GB sticks, CPU-Z indicates dual-channel operation as well. Based on what I’ve read, this setup should operate in FLEX mode, where the 8GB should handle dual-channel and the smaller sticks run in single-channel. When using FLEX mode, CAS drops from 16 to 18. I’m wondering if others have experience with this configuration and whether it might affect performance over time. Also, I’m curious if the CAS difference matters for gaming, especially since my main use is gaming. There are some titles that could use more RAM than 8GB, but I’m not sure if the lower CAS latency would really make a difference.
