My specifications are clear. I’m considering replacing my GTX 1080 with a newer model that uses DDR 5. Will I need to upgrade my DDR 4 RAM to work with these new cards?

There is no immediate connection between the GPU and main system memory.

Also a lot of the new cards have gddr6 and 7. But no relation between vram and system ram.

Your GPU upgrade budget is unknown, and the details about your PSU's make, model, and age are also not provided.

I'm just a casual daily gamer, probably spending about 5 hours a day. My vision isn't great either.

GDDR5 shares similarities with GDDR4, relying on DDR3 technology but optimized for faster data transfer at the cost of higher latency. The GDDR5X in your 1080 model increases prefetch to 16n, yet remains largely comparable to DDR3. It hasn't been necessary to pair it with DDR3 SDRAM on motherboards for the past decade, which is why a new card would seem different.
