I own a Legion Y540 paired with an i5 9300h and a GTX 1650. Right now I’m throttling the CPU down by -150 mV and keeping the power draw at around 33 watts using ThrottleStop. Even though the CPU briefly hits 90-92°C for just a second, the overall temps stay between 70-80°C. I play games for more than six hours, so I’m worried about the laptop’s lifespan. What could be causing this and what should I do?
The legion seems like a young model, probably not too old. It might be a dust issue, so I could try applying a better thermal paste temporarily. I’m unsure about the warranty, so I’d probably leave it as is.
those readings don't impact how long the chip lasts as long as they aren't constantly present, even then the Intel mobile chips are quite durable so it's unlikely your CPU will become a problem before other significant issues arise on your device. If you aim for higher temperatures beyond basic adjustments, you'll likely need to replace the components.
