About the module support, I believe you're asking if the motherboard can handle 32 GB drives.

@porina mentioned that if you have additional channels, you should utilize them. The CPU controls the number of channels.

I've consistently filled all four slots, mainly because of quad channel memory experiences. I also mistakenly think it's less demanding on RAM, though I usually need to boost the voltage for stability.

It's more about what you need. I'm investing a lot in designing a custom setup and I aim for it to last a long time. This is the first time I've built anything myself (previously made one for my parents) and I've always relied on laptops. Now I'm focused, wanting a solid machine—not something unreliable soon. It should handle gaming and also serve as a media server. I think 32 GB would suffice, though I might upgrade to 64 GB if it makes sense. I'm holding off on the Ryzen 4 CPUs and hoping for better motherboards to match. No rush—just planning until Christmas.

Looking forward to the Ryzen 4 lineup, possibly offering quad-channel performance. (Compared to Threadripper models, lower than that.)

Right now, I haven’t started using any motherboard. I’m setting up a build for the end of the year, aiming to launch after Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

Wait... Are you saying in the past things used to be quad-channel and now we've gone to dual-channel? But from what I've just learned on this thread, only Threadripper currently offers quad-channel.

Unless you require a significant amount of RAM—such as for video editing—you're unlikely to notice practical advantages from more than 32GB. Many believe 32GB is sufficient, and systems like HEDT feature Intel's Socket 1366, 2011 & 2066 CPUs, which are often considered 'work' machines.

I understand that right now it might suffice, but I've often faced situations where I had a certain setup and then checked the essential requirements for a game. Usually, I found myself lacking appropriate specs or having ones that would let the game run but not at its optimal performance. Now I want to stay ahead. You get the idea? With the upcoming generation of consoles, developers will likely push hardware limits even further, which could improve PC games as well—possibly prompting them to raise their minimum requirements. Another point is that this system will also function as a media server. I intend to use tools like Unraid and Plex so my wife can stream shows, my stepdaughter can watch movies, and I can enjoy games while the system handles everything smoothly. That’s my goal at least. Plus, having editing capabilities would be handy if I ever needed to work on videos.
