10 to 15 percent will bring it nearer to fairness. Yet with less than half the energy consumption.

I should probably hold off then, haha. I was considering the 10900k because it seems like a slightly improved gaming CPU. But if the 3900xt turns out better than its current form, I might opt for AMD since it also offers M.2 4th generation support.

In writing it down, it appears the core count on paper is reduced for the Ryzen 3950X, offering limited improvement compared to Intel.

It seems like you're feeling a bit frustrated about the pricing. I get it—staying with Gen 3 M.2s does save some money, but I was hoping for better performance.

Unless you're making a change that truly benefits from NVMe on a Gen 4 connection, the performance difference won't be obvious. Even for photo editing, I don’t notice much change switching from an NVMe drive to regular SATA III. I’m not claiming it’s impossible, but it doesn’t matter enough for my tasks. Still, a 10900k W will boost frame rates. A quicker M.2 drive at full speed won’t help much—at least not until game developers start applying lessons from PS5, which also assumes most PCs have SSDs, and NVMe tech is still in its early stages.

It's more crucial to know your GPU model and the display resolution you use. Also, check if you have Gsync or Freesync enabled.
