hello everyone, i have a query and would appreciate your thoughts. does it really matter which cpu i choose (3700x, 3800x, 9700k) if i'm using a gtx 1080 in my setup? all the performance charts I see are based on a 2080ti, which is significantly more powerful than my 1080. i assume my 1080 would be the limiting factor, not any of those three options. i have a 2k monitor at 144hz and prefer to play in 2k quality rather than 1080p, which I think makes the 1080 bottleneck even clearer. if the settings keep me at least 60-90 fps, i'd rather opt for an amd processor instead of an intel one.
Usually at 1440p the GPU becomes the limiting factor, making the 3700x a solid choice. Between the 3700x and 3800x, unless you find a good price on the latter, stick with the 3700x. The performance difference in games is usually just a couple to three frames per second.
