hello everyone, i have a query and would appreciate your thoughts. does it really matter which cpu i choose (3700x, 3800x, 9700k) if i'm using a gtx 1080 in my setup? all the performance charts I see are based on a 2080ti, which is significantly more powerful than my 1080. i assume my 1080 would be the limiting factor, not any of those three options. i have a 2k monitor at 144hz and prefer to play in 2k quality rather than 1080p, which I think makes the 1080 bottleneck even clearer. if the settings keep me at least 60-90 fps, i'd rather opt for an amd processor instead of an intel one.

Usually at 1440p the GPU becomes the limiting factor, making the 3700x a solid choice. Between the 3700x and 3800x, unless you find a good price on the latter, stick with the 3700x. The performance difference in games is usually just a couple to three frames per second.

If you're only into gaming, this model behaves like the R7 3700X yet costs less. It'll also provide a solid upgrade over the i7 4770K.

Did you try any processor to manage that card smoothly? I used a 1080 in both setups, and performance was vastly different—1080p and 1440p showed huge differences even at night.

The 9700k is intended for pushing performance to its peak and achieving top frame rates, especially in competitive settings where even small gains matter—like maintaining 1% and 0.1% lows at 1080p without background processes running. However, in multi-tasking scenarios, the 3700 tends to perform better with lower stutter, as it handles multiple operations more efficiently than just focusing on a single high-speed task.

GPU seems to be the main issue, so a 3700X should definitely suffice.
