Guys, what makes sense to invest in 12600K for my 3900X and X570? I’m focusing on top gaming performance, not just a CPU built for games. I think the only solid choice is 12700K, but I’m tight on budget since that chip costs way more. I’ve noticed some tests show 12600K outperforming the 3900X in single-threaded tasks, but in multi-core it’s pretty close in Cinebench. For gaming, the 3900X really struggles with single-core speeds. Maybe a better pick would be the 5800X. I’m definitely aiming for a gaming CPU around 1440p, keeping prices reasonable—something like an 2080 Super wouldn’t be too bad. The 5600X seems like it’s overpriced right now.

I opt for 5800x/5900x/3d depending on your budget and want to keep your GPU and RAM. If the price looks bad, hold off a bit—3900x isn’t ready yet. I’d stick to a 12th gen chip with DDR5, though DDR5 memory/PCM is a bit worn out right now.

The 3900x seems limited compared to recent trends, but why would you dismiss it? Plus, a 12600k requires a new graphics card too.

The CPU performance gap will be minimal, or at least not very apparent in most games.

Looking at a 5800x over 3900x setup, I’m unsure what performance boost I’d see in gaming. The 3900x struggles with multicore tasks up to 4.2GHz, which might not be enough for modern games. Other CPUs usually outperform it easily.

You're wondering if spending a significant amount like 12,600K or 5,800X is justified for only a few additional frames.

Essentially, no need to compare. The resolution is 1080p, and at 1440p the CPU's involvement becomes negligible.

With this setup, upgrading the CPU won’t significantly boost gaming performance. The 3900X can’t overcome the limitations of a 2080S in most titles.

Opt for the current version only. Each purchase reduces your savings. Save more by investing in major upgrades every few years rather than constantly.

The only reason it makes sense to upgrade for minor improvements is if you can still utilize the components you're replacing. Personally, I always have someone around who could benefit from or use the upgrades using what I already have.
