You can directly enter the product key during an upgrade in Windows, and it will confirm verification. If it says it’s verified, it might reinstall Windows 7 Starter automatically. If not, you can safely delete the files and start fresh.

You can't find an installer for Windows 7 Starter. Microsoft doesn't provide any installation files except to original equipment manufacturers, meaning you won't be able to reinstall the operating system. It's best to securely erase any browser data used for banking or similar services. What upgrades are you considering? Where did you obtain the product key? Was it located at the bottom of the laptop, and what version does it indicate?

It mentioned the upgrade didn't work because it was a Windows version that wasn't compatible with any Windows version at the time.
