Upgraded from version 7 to 10 on day one and I'm quite pleased. My boot time was halved and everything appears smooth and responsive. A few settings have shifted slightly, requiring some exploration, but overall it's a straightforward experience. The start menu delivers the ideal balance—subtle yet functional. It looks appealing, offers more shortcuts than version 7 while occupying less space. The only drawback is that everything now functions as an app, and the programs menu feels cluttered and difficult to use.

I'm scheduled to wait until the 31st of December and plan to upgrade all four of my computers, including the folding PC.

The interface looks quite similar overall. The main advantage for most users is the progress DX12 and Cortana are delivering. I tested various Windows versions, but 8 was really poor; 8.1 improved a lot, and 10 offers improvements over 8 with those two key benefits plus many smaller updates.

Are you still relying on your previous software? I haven’t switched to apps at all.

Consider the advantages of Vista instead of XP. While there are benefits and drawbacks to both, sticking with 8.1 is a solid choice.
