I would choose Windows 8.1 because it feels much smoother compared to Windows 7. Many users grumble about the old start button, but there are apps available to replace it and solve the issue. This is my current start button.

They just like Windows 7 because of its vibe. Windows 8.1 seems to handle the core better, which might help with video work. It also appears to give higher FPS in games, though I'm not completely sure.

Windows 8 has its advantages, though it isn't significantly improved enough to justify the cost of an upgrade. Windows 10 is set to become a free upgrade soon, offering all the strengths of Windows 8 along with additional benefits.
