Hello everyone. I'm running Windows Vista and considering an upgrade. Should I go with Windows 8.1 or Windows 7? I'm concerned about memory usage since I only have 1 GB of RAM. My system is an AMD SEMPRON LE-1250 with 1 GB DDR2 800MHz RAM, a 3 TB hard drive, and no graphics card. I need to know how each operating system uses RAM and their speed to help decide.

Well it also depends on your computers other components. Im assuming this is a OEM computer and not a custom built one. Can you provide us with a model number?

I recommend version 7. You need to purchase an OEM edition before it becomes out of stock.

Windows 8.1 seems less stable compared to 7, yet I prefer it. I suggest going with 8.1, but upgrading your computer is highly recommended.

Linux is tough unless you're up for a challenge and want to gain some knowledge. I suggest Windows 8.1 instead of Windows 7.

Ubuntu would perform well on those specifications and it’s free and simple to set up. A good idea to test it out before investing in Windows 7 or 8.1.

For gaming it works well on Windows 8. For everyday tasks and other activities, Windows 7 is a better choice.
