You're considering an older PC with a dual-core 2 quad CPU and wondering whether Windows 7 or 10 would perform better, especially for gaming. You've had success with Windows 10 but faced issues requiring a fresh install twice.

HDD speed at 7, SSD at 10. Choose what works best for you.

If Windows 7 functions currently, continue using it. Windows 10 provides several helpful features, yet it also introduces additional challenges as most users will agree (though I haven’t faced major problems myself). Your decision ultimately depends on your needs. Eventually, you’ll need to move on since Windows 7 is approaching the end of its support life (about a year left), which means no more security updates will be provided.

I’d choose 7 often. It gets too many “call home” updates in 10. Right now, 7 remains a solid OS with most issues fixed, making it quite reliable. Just my take—others might have different views.

I've experienced several problems with W10 since its release, especially around the time of launch. However, over the past few months it's become much more reliable, with almost no issues now. It seems we're now at a stage where it's comparable to or better than W7 in terms of stability.
