Hi everyone, I'm looking to set up a new PC for music production, gaming, and I'm unsure about choosing the right CPUs. Any advice? Thanks! – Germany

The CPUs are almost identical, with only one having significantly more cores. Should you require additional cores? Would it be worthwhile to invest in the extra cost for those cores? If the response is yes, then the 3995WX is the right option.

They likely referred to the 3955WX—a 16-core processor featuring reduced cache size and a lower boost frequency—but it offers 8 memory channels and additional PCIe connections.

Several memory channels stand out as the key difference here. If the tasks @Larsaf need higher memory bandwidth, the 3955WX would be ideal. On the other hand, if more cores matter, the 3960X offers better performance. Also unclear is which PCIe devices will be used.

It seems the range of memory isn't the main factor compared to overall processing strength.

It seems the 3960X would be a suitable option then.

The system guidelines suggest a maximum of 8GB RAM, which means the 3955WX likely needs only 8 channels. You’d probably need at least 32GB to fill all channels, but ideally 64GB with multiple 8GB modules. Do you rely heavily on many PCIe devices for your audio projects? Even the entry-level 3960X offers more lanes than a typical consumer CPU, so unless you plan extensive card installations, the 3960X seems better suited for your needs.
