I’d really consider going for the R7 3700x here. If you’re open to swapping things out, I’d prefer a different SSD since the QVO drives aren’t performing well. You could get better options for the same cost, even the 660p model would be a close match. I’d avoid the 120mm AIOs too—they’re pricier than air coolers that actually keep things cool or opt for a 240mm cooler for better performance.
I prefer sticking with Intel for this build since I don’t want to switch to another MOBO and past experiences with AMD haven’t been great. I could return the QVO drive, but would an EVO drive be a better choice? Also, what’s the distinction between the two? My biggest concern about air coolers is how much they add weight to my MOBO—other than that, I have no objections.
AMD has improved significantly lately. If you can send it back, I’d appreciate it. The QVO drives are quite low-end, meaning less endurance and mostly good write performance. I’m also considering an NVMe option. Around the same price point, with lower latency and less CPU load. The size isn’t a problem unless you’re frequently relocating it; the boards can manage it.
That's another factor to consider—low power output, a mediocre heatsink, and limited cooling capacity make it risky even at higher clock speeds.
It's pretty much the best you can achieve with SSDs at the moment. There are also many more affordable alternatives available.
