In reality, the distinction between motherboards is minimal. They don’t significantly impact performance improvements or setbacks; they simply offer various features in different amounts. Focus on specific needs like built-in Wi-Fi, storage sizes, or expansion slots to help decide. Once those are covered, the differences fade away. Yes, some models have stronger VRM designs, but generally any reputable Z390 board (EVGA, Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, etc.) will perform well. I own a fairly inexpensive Z390 from MSI that came with my 8700k—it handles 5 GHz without issues, never blue screens, and I’ve shared it with others. Asus TUF has also been reliable historically, with adequate VRM cooling.
Don't do that. It's really a waste of money. Either purchase the 9900k now, or continue using your 9600k until you're ready to upgrade and switch to the latest models. Particularly with Intel, buying now with plans to upgrade later within the same generation is pointless. Based on what I've seen, I bought a Z370 board and an i3-8350k thinking my son would only play WoW, which was limited in performance. Now he doesn<|pad|>, and even simple games are tough on 4/4 resolution. Recently I switched to an i5-9400 for $129, but that adds up to $169 plus the cost of the old i3-8350k, with little chance to sell it cheaply. Instead, I could have started with a locked 8700 for $299 and stayed ahead without any issues. Even better, consider a 3600x for the same price as the 9600k—it offers better reliability thanks to SMT.
