In gaming, perhaps, or in everyday situations, it's hard to predict its purpose. We can't be sure what you'll actually need it for.

Clocks and L3 cache size. The performance boost will be small, avoid the i7 unless the price drop is significant or it includes additional features you value.

The performance gap between them isn’t noticeable, though it’s funny to see the older i5-8259U seem quicker than both. The Ryzen 5 2500U appears to outperform them too. It’s disappointing how Intel keeps releasing newer chips that can’t match the older ones.

Comparing Intel mobile CPUs isn't straightforward using model numbers or MHz ratings. A CPU with unlocked power and strong cooling can be upgraded from a 15W model to a 50W one, potentially doubling or tripling performance. Another device with the same 10510U might restrict power to 15W or less.

It's important to examine laptop reviews to understand how these devices perform in everyday use. I experienced a model where disabling BDPROCHOT was necessary because the CPU would significantly slow down when the battery reached 50%. The same issue occurred with GPUs, as different manufacturers have varying power settings and cooling systems, leading to thermal throttling even when maximum power is set. Laptop makers should provide clearer information about their power profiles and actual performance capabilities.

on the surface, not much, but generally i7's are given a greater power budget so they will be able to sustain higher clocks. assuming both chips are running at the same clocks. performance would be within 1% of each other.
