Which is superior? The Ryzen 9 5900 versus the 5800X for gaming and heavy tasks depends on your needs. The 5800X generally offers better performance in most scenarios, while the Ryzen 9 5900 might edge out in specific workloads.

The term "intensive use" generally refers to demanding operations such as high data throughput, heavy processing loads, or resource-heavy applications. It doesn't always mean strictly threaded tasks; it can apply to any scenario requiring significant computational or network resources.

There’s a lot of data available with charts and statistics you’ll love. If you need core performance, the 5900 still stands out. Gaming shows a 1-3fps gap in most tests. You should check if the software you plan to use gains more cores. https://www.anandtech.com/show/16214/amd...-tested/14 The 5900 isn’t listed there, but few sites won’t focus on it closely. Just try to gauge the difference from there.

For gaming, their performance will be almost identical. Each has nearly the same single-core speed. The main distinction is the additional four cores (12 versus the 5900). If you're confident in tackling every detail, the 5900 may edge out the 5900 for your needs. In other activities, any noticeable difference would be hard to spot.

Thank you a lot! I’ll choose the 5900 because of the 120 mm cooling system.

Curious to know, which OEM you're procuring from?

Did you really locate one? The 5900 is intended for OEM use only, and I wasn’t even realizing it was accessible. Regarding the comparison with the 5800X, I’m uncertain if it will significantly outperform it. It features a 12-core design offering more threads, but its 65W TDP means power consumption is reduced at the cost of base and boost speeds. Consequently, the 5800X is likely to outperform it in single-threaded tasks, and possibly remain competitive in multicore scenarios (8 fast or 12 slower cores—benchmarks needed for confirmation).
