Your activity mainly involves programming and browsing the web, not gaming. For this type of usage, a more suitable option would be programming tools or productivity software.

I wouldn't rely on an I3, regardless of the generation. It bothers me when a small program takes around 20 seconds to compile. I prefer at least an i5 that's a few generations back and 16GB of RAM. A 9th or 8th generation chip would be my personal choice.

The cost gap between a solid 4th generation laptop and an 8th generation i5 one typically ranges around $100, but you get more than double the speed. Plus, it works with Windows 11.

What financial range and nation are you considering? Additionally, which laptop style are you aiming for? Something heavier and more powerful with better performance but shorter battery duration, or a lighter design offering lower power consumption and extended usage time?

Andrei highlighted the importance of your budget. When comparing older models to newer ones, new options aren't always superior. However, recent laptops usually offer significantly greater performance and features because of yearly technological improvements. For instance, the 4th generation Core i7-4770K delivered a solid score with its 4 cores, 8 threads, and 3.9Gb RAM, while a similar model like the i5-11400F offers more cores and threads at a comparable price. Generally, adding more cores and threads boosts processing power, but checking CPU benchmarks on sites like cpubenchmark.net can help assess workload performance. In short, always seek good value. I usually shop at MicroCenter for affordable deals. Right now, the Ryzen 5 series stands out as a strong choice for everyday use. If you don’t need high-end specs, opt for a reliable daily laptop like this one.

I'm based in Pakistan and have a reliable PC for demanding tasks. I'm looking for an affordable laptop that's compact, thin, and offers long battery life—perfect for studying on the go without heavy strain.

You likely prefer a laptop featuring a U-series chip (like 5200U, 5300U, 6300U, etc.). The main distinction between an i5 5200U and an i3 7100U lies in clock speed, with the i5 offering a faster processor and a more powerful GPU compared to the i3.

The i3's run much slower and don't provide a solid experience. Consider getting a device compatible with Windows 11 in about two years—winfows often fail after ten attempts. An i5 8250u uses less power and, being newer, is more likely to keep the battery running for an hour or so. Be aware you'll probably need to swap the battery soon, either when purchasing or shortly after use, since it tends to wear out quickly. Also, expect a thermal paste change if temperatures rise significantly due to age.
