Well tell us your budget (and actual currency) and what country you're purchasing the parts from, and we can help you pick the right parts. Unless that someone's got a crystall ball then I probably wouldn't bet on a 3900X lasting exactly 6 years. There's no way to tell for sure how CPUs will evolve over the coming years and it also depends on what you do. If you're just reading emails, an i3 from 8 years ago technically will still be more than enough.

In the coming years we'll receive both new CPUs and GPUs, making it ideal to hold off on choosing final components until then. Those who frequently handle multi-threaded jobs that benefit from up to 32 threads on Ryzen 9 processors—such as video editing, 3D work, and rendering—should plan accordingly.

yea ill wait for the new gpus/cpus to launch before i buy anything Do you mean professional video editing? Also do you think going for the 3900x for me would not be any more noticebale then purchasing a 3700x? I mean you did say 3700x would be enough for my needs but is there actually something i could take advantage of down the line if i start getting into professional editing(from the 3900x). Because if it really is going to help me i could buy a cheaper gpu maybe.

Predicting hardware evolution is extremely difficult. Remember that top-tier gaming CPUs from Intel a few years back offered only 4 cores or 8 threads in the i7 lineup, such as the 7700K. Today, even more affordable options like the R5 3600 come with 6 cores or 12 threads.

For gaming, switching from a 3700X to a 3900X won’t boost performance noticeably, and for simple video editing, projects likely won’t perform as well on the latter. The 3900X speeds up exports, but unless that’s your focus, saving time doesn’t always translate to extra income. With a $2400 budget, you don’t need to compromise much on part choices.

Absolutely support this. With $2400 you can comfortably include the 3900X + 2080Ti without any issues. If you're looking to invest heavily, consider waiting another three months for better value.

That's great! I'm likely going with a Ryzen 7.

I'm planning to get two monitors, which makes it tougher to fit everything in. The second one is an extra $200 and the main one about $500. I'm going to wait three months before buying the latest models. If I can save enough for something like 3900x+2080ti or similar next-gen options, would that make sense to choose the Ryzen 9? I've cleared most of the doubts for me, but your thoughts would be great too.

If you have the capacity for the 4900X, you're good to go. For simpler projects, the 3700X or 4700X will suffice—just allocate more time during export. From my experience, the 3700X is a powerful machine, handling tasks like a 9900K or 10700K, while still being efficient and impressive in gaming.

Thanks for the response. If you're considering Ryzen 9, it's good to know 3700X is powerful too. I'm still a bit unsure but glad we clarified things. I'm now leaning more toward the 3700X since I don't plan on doing complex editing soon.
