Imagine you own a 3080ti that’s now maxed out at 5.1ghz with an i7-8700K overclocked. Many recent titles run smoothly in this setup, especially when you’re playing at 1440P and using VR with Quest 3 (mostly sim racing). The 5800X3D is a bit pricier but offers better performance, while the 9700X and 13600K could work with future upgrades. The 12700K might be built from used parts, so it’s worth considering. Check out the links for more details!

In reality, I have ideas about sending my mom from Florida to Micro Center to pick up this package... do you think this approach makes sense given that it’s over 1000 CAD?

9700x might be too much, but a 9600x or even 7600 would work just fine.

The 8700K becomes unstable during ultra settings in numerous games, causing performance issues.

Certainly, this pairing works well, yet the main focus should be on a 7600x/7700x resolution for 1440p.

You're aiming for a higher performance setup, focusing on better IPC, more cores, faster cores, and quicker memory. That makes sense for an upgrade.

This setup offers great value compared to other options. The 9700X is already affordable, so why choose a more expensive 7xx series? It makes sense to go with what works best for your needs.

I usually replace the CPU every five years or so...I hope it stays that way.

The 7800X3D is too costly... so it feels similar to a refurbished 7700X... and the Intel 13600K would be attractive, but it would require me to upgrade my CPU cooler since it doesn’t match the new socket, while AM5 supports it.

It suggests a 9700x isn't necessary and implies the processor could be more affordable otherwise.
