I managed to get a used 1600 model off eBay for a good price. Is this a valuable improvement over the 2400g? It offers two extra cores and four additional threads, though single-core performance seems slightly reduced. My 2400g is currently overclocked to 3.8 on every core. Would adding more cores help games? If the benefits are minimal, I might save it for my wife's build later.

They seem identical, especially when boosted to the same speed. Most non-esports titles launched in the last three years gain advantages from extra processing units, though with a Zen setup you might not see better frame rates.

It's common for many games to make use of additional cores. You mentioned you can run at 1600 and noticed that older Ryzen models are quite selective about RAM speed. Currently, you're using 3200mhz.
