The CL40 with 5200mhz and 2x16GB RAM is a solid setup. Check for any stuttering or lag in FPS to ensure smooth performance.
The latency is quite high compared to what's typical for a "slow" DDR5 kit. It will function adequately but may cause a slight reduction in frames per second. Recently, hardware was unboxed showing a comparison of RAM sticks—one with one stick versus two. Older comparisons included DDR5-5200 CL40 against DDR5-6000 CL30 on AMD processors, and various options for Intel systems.
It won't work, it's better to save up than spend 1500 on flashy stuff.
In the end, your budget depends on how much you value performance versus cost and features. With identical speeds and timings, DDR5 8GB modules are likely to be 1Rx16, which will underperform compared to 1Rx8 with 16GB modules. Some newer 32GB chips now support 1R. I’d favor 2R options, so choose carefully when selecting 32GB modules or opt for 48/64GB to be safe. It’s possible even 16GB modules might shift toward 1Rx16 at some point, especially in enthusiast builds. Standard JEDEC modules are less likely to change in laptops, but stay alert. Moving from poor to good setups (other options exist) could mean 2x 1Rx8 (16GB) as a practical starting point, while 4x 1Rx8 (16GB) carries higher risk but offers better performance if it succeeds.
The video is using high end gaming rig RTX4090 7700x for the test.If it was using a lower mid range PC , such as RTX 5060 with a R5 7600 or i5 12600 , will the result be less noticeable ? Why on Intel side , they didn't test it with the same RAM ? Any similar benchmark testing on CL RAM on youtube ? Wait for RAM price drop or buy ?
This won't occur for a long time. To be clear, I set up a configuration for a colleague last week. By the time he placed his order this evening, his RAM package (standard DDR5 6000 CL30) increased from 170€ to 230€ and wasn't even in stock. The next best option we could find was just under 300€. We're expected to be in the Black Friday discounts.
Someone might argue that Black Friday sales aren't the best moment to assemble a PC. A PC can function without a GPU but needs RAM, and while there are many used CPUs, finding suitable RAM is tough. The price for RAM doesn't seem likely to drop soon—DDR6 might hit in 2029 and DDR5 prices keep rising. How would you feel about PC building when RAM costs more than the CPU or GPU? Has this happened before?
If you purchase a Fury 2 stick of 16GB with identical speed and timing but as a single module, it won’t be a matched pair. It should still work well and handle EXPO or XMP profiles. If the RAM price falls again, consider buying another stick. Prices are expected to rise significantly around Black Friday.
It's not about Black Friday or a predicted decline in the near term. The responsibility lies with AI. Still, you can test it, though its results will be less than double that of 2x8.
