My home connection runs at 900mbps, which is quite fast. Right now I’m using my router modem, which performs well at close range (around 700mbps) and drops to about 50mbps at the farthest points. The house spans roughly 4,000 square feet. I’m wondering whether to install a mesh network or opt for an access point paired with a powerful router. With a budget of around £350, I have an Orbi RKB 752 (AX4000), one Orbi router, and a satellite extender. Another choice would be purchasing a high-speed router and running an Ethernet cable to the room, then setting up a wired access point there. In my mind, the Orbi spreads coverage more evenly—router on one side of the house, satellite on the opposite—potentially improving both upstairs and downstairs performance compared to a wired setup alone. The upgraded router might still offer better speeds than the stock model, though I’m not certain about the exact numbers. Any guidance on selecting would be really helpful.

Your Wi-Fi connection is functioning properly and satisfies your requirements at the moment. I’d prefer to let it stay in its current state until it no longer meets your expectations. If it doesn’t, understanding why could help guide any future adjustments.

The regular modem router from the provider becomes too busy with devices and stops working in certain areas of the home.
