Your current connection is slower than what the TP-LINK AC2300 claims, so it might limit performance. The router advertises higher speeds, but your actual throughput will depend on network conditions and device usage.

The router speeds described apply to data movement within your home network, such as transferring files between two computers inside the house. The internet connection speed stays at 100Mbps, meaning any file transfer from a server on the web will be capped at that rate.

I focus mainly on gaming and watching videos online. I don’t need to switch between devices on the same network. Will upgrading to a quicker router improve my performance, or does it still cap my 100mbps speed regardless of changes?

Certainly, when your internet service provider offers just 100Mbps, the performance of any home setup remains capped at that speed regardless of the equipment you purchase.
