Hey there! I'm just starting out with PC building and have been using a prebuilt system for over 20 years. I recently got this old machine from my dad, which has been reliable. It doesn't have a GPU, which is a big limitation for gaming. For my new build, I plan to play games, stream, and write—especially since I'm a professional fiction writer. I want the best CPU possible, mainly because I'm willing to try anything. I'm torn between the AMD RYZEN 9 3950X at 3.5GHz and the Intel Core i9 10900K at 3.7GHz. Maybe it's just a silly question since some people laughed at it, but I'm new here and hope you can help me without making me feel awkward. Thanks a lot!

Are you sure about the workload? Or is this more about gaming? The budget seems tight. If you can wait, I’d look into Zen 3 and see what it brings.

Hold on, it's been a while. Zen 3 arrives in October and will bring major changes. Upgraded GPUs are also on the way.

Budget sits near 3000 euros for the entire project. The workload is hard to describe since with the previous setup I couldn't play smoothly, but it should handle the latest titles comfortably and keep me secure in the long term. Streaming capability is essential too.

If feasible, hold off until ampere is available, Zen 3, and even Big Navi are launched, then review their offerings.

Current CPU is a Core2Duo E8400 (2 cores, 2 threads @3.0GHz). I’m not sure which games work well on it, but Battlefield looks promising!

If feasible, you might want to wait a little longer and see if Ampere appears and then check the announcement for Zen 3 to understand what they provide.

It seems like you're in a tough spot. If you really want to play now, you have limited options. Honestly, if I were you, I wouldn't waste a big 3000eu on things right now because most stuff is no longer supported. I'd just pick the cheapest but still decent options and then rethink when you can't play at your usual level anymore.

Sure, let's consider waiting until October.
