Deadset is unsure if to choose the 3900x $779 AUD or the I9 9900k ($799 AUD) / I9 9900ks ($899 AUD). The main goal is to get the best performance from my CPU for gaming when I can spare time off school. Both aftermarket coolers are already set up for AMD and Intel. The I9 9900ks starts at around 5GHz, while the 9900k is slightly lower. The 3900x is roughly in the 4.7GHz range. Which option offers better value and performance? And what about future upgrades in a few months or a year? Could Intel or AMD release next-generation CPUs?
9900k/ks remains dominant in gaming, extra cores on the 3900x only help if you run multiple tasks (like playing a game plus streaming). AMD isn’t faster, Intel’s 10th gen brings 10 cores but same design—gaming gains won’t be significant unless GPUs get much more powerful.
Frequency isn't that high, only a small gain was seen and IPC dropped.
3900x offers the best balance, though Intel remains a solid choice for gaming. I think it's worth considering, even if I'd prefer the 3900x myself.
