He should consider the 10850K model instead of the 10900K. The price gap is substantial, and based on what I've learned, the 10850K offers comparable performance without the higher cost. There aren't major differences beyond the price that affect the decision.

Nope, it's just a lower binned 10900k and that's it. though if you're waiting for ampere wait for zen 3 as well and check what it has to offer and then decide, also if you're just gaming, a 10600k performs similarly since games do not scale up to 10 cores.

I recommended 10600K while my friend streams and edits YouTube content, so he needs 10 cores. From an AMD perspective, he hasn’t been enthusiastic lately—he’s stuck with Intel for about 15 years and prefers staying there.

Consider telling him to pause and evaluate the options before making a choice. You might run the nvec encoder on the GPU and shift that processing there, though that doesn't fully address your query.
