Compare I3 9100 and I5 8265U in terms of speed and efficiency.
Hello, I need to decide between a PC and wonder which offers better performance for my workload, especially with Excel. I know my laptop uses an i5 CPU but am curious if it outperforms a desktop i3. UserBenchmark suggests the i3 does better in tests. What should I consider?
The Intel i3 desktop outperforms the budget laptop i5 according to the benchmark results.
Do you already possess the motherboard @giusgius ? : ) Is the 1600AF model accessible nearby?
are we creating a laptop? why the analogy? If you're looking for something with strong performance...opt for a Clevo or similar model that you can purchase without a CPU, but supports desktop processors. I'm considering making this myself. My current i5-8500 is gathering dust...I don't want to settle for a weak laptop processor. I understand there are powerful laptop CPUs that handle multi-threaded tasks well, but in reality, single-core performance is what truly determines how a PC functions...ymmv.
Consider using PerformanceTEST to evaluate CPU performance. You already run UserBenchmark regularly, but measuring CPU power directly can help you understand the results better. For benchmarking CPUs, tools like Cinebench or 3DMark are popular choices. Regarding Intel processors, the differences between models often depend on architecture and features. The i5-8265U may not match newer chips like the i7-3632QM in speed, especially for heavy tasks such as large Excel files. The 1600 series offers solid performance but might lag behind newer releases. If you're targeting Intel, focus on the latest models and consider testing with real workloads to compare accurately.
UserBenchmark stands out as the least suitable for CPU comparisons. I find cpubenchmark adequate, though I sometimes rely on it. Cinebench Ryzen 5 1600 AF closely mimics a Ryzen 5 2600 with reduced speeds. The older non-AF 1600 model is inferior due to being a first-generation Ryzen. Neither offers integrated graphics.
