Over the last fifteen years, I've managed several antivirus and internet security programs. Starting with Norton in the 2000s, moving through McAfee, Kaspersky, GData, BitDefender, AVAST, ESET NOD32 and now Emisosoft. For the past four years I've been using NOD32 and found it very satisfactory. As my license renewal approaches this month, I decided to explore Emsisoft before switching back to NOD32. I wasn't familiar with Emsisoft until recently and heard it's a strong anti-malware solution. I've been trying Emsisoft for ten days now and it works well. It tends to use more memory than NOD32, but that's not a problem since I have 16GB of RAM. I didn't see any startup delays when running both programs, though I'm using a Samsung 850 Pro as the boot device. Emsisoft appears to be more proactive in spotting PUP. I updated my video drivers a few days ago and Emsisoft alerted me during the process, which the installer didn't do. ESET typically waits for a moment before confirming actions, whereas Emsisoft often acts immediately. I appreciate ESET's discretion, but I also value Emsisoft's detailed approach. It gives me confidence that ESET doesn't search for these threats. I'm also using a lifetime MalwaresBytes Anti-Malware Premium with real-time protection. What are your thoughts on comparing Emsisoft Anti-Malware (EAM) and ESET Anti-virus? I'm not switching to another suite or abandoning my current protection. This is our family's computer and an antivirus is essential. Thanks, Guillaume.

I run AVG which checks files and programs quietly in the background. It identified malware and viruses before installation, and it consumes very little CPU.

because you're jumping between options, check out Bullguard—they began with a poor reputation but have since turned things around and now excel for family computers.

Keep ESET in mind, they perform well. Emsisoft relies on Bitdefender signatures, their protection is decent for typical malware but falls short against more advanced threats. I favor solutions that offer stronger defense against sophisticated malware. Still, both are solid; I’d choose ESET personally.

Thanks for your message. I apologize for the delay—I was away for a few days. I reinstalled ESET Anti-Virus and decided to upgrade with ESET. After some time using Emsisoft and then returning to ESET, I noticed my games and boot times improved slightly. Not a huge difference, but there was a noticeable change. Windows would sometimes freeze for about 2 seconds when loading Emsisoft services, and EliteBig Grinangerous took around 10 seconds to load. With ESET, everything felt smoother. I also observed that Emsisoft services used around 450MB of RAM, whereas ESET used much less—about 120MB. I really like Emsisoft and have tested it independently, confirming its quality. Still, I’ll stick with ESET this year. Maybe next year I’ll try Emsisoft again. Thanks for the BullGuard suggestion—I recall it from a few years ago but never checked it then. I might revisit it next year!
