Hey everyone, I've been looking through the reviews for the RTX 3080 and starting to think about upgrading my current setup. But what I've noticed is that at 1440p resolution, the CPU performance seems to slow down with the new cards. Since it's hard to judge the cards' quality without more info, I'm considering a CPU upgrade before getting the GPU. My current setup includes an Intel i7-5960X (4.3 GHz), 32GB RAM at 2400MHz, and a MSI X99 XPower Titanium EVGA 1080 Ti. I was thinking maybe moving to a Ryzen 9 3900X with a 32GB RAM module clocked above 3000MHz once the cards arrive around early 2021. Thanks for your help, DaButterGamer!

Upgrade now while you install the new graphics card—rumors suggest AMD’s next-gen CPUs will hit the market this year, likely arriving at the beginning of next year as well.

By the end of the year we should receive the new AMD ZEN 3 chips along with fresh AMD graphics cards and possibly additional nVidia models. Holding off isn’t a bad choice. Since your 1080 Ti remains quite capable, delaying won’t cause much trouble.
