Compare Bootcamp and a clean W10 installation for your MacBook.
Hey! So you're thinking about swapping out Mac OS X for Windows 10 on your 2014 MacBook Pro. I’ve got some thoughts on both Bootcamp and a clean install.
Bootcamp can be tricky—especially if you’re not familiar with it—and sometimes the setup can feel unstable. A clean install gives you a fresh start without lingering OS files, but it means you’ll have to reinstall everything from scratch.
If you want reliability, a clean install is usually safer, especially if you’re new to Macs or dealing with older hardware. Just make sure your drive is formatted correctly and you back up important data beforehand.
Let me know if you want tips on preparing the drive or choosing the right installation method!
You should definitely try a bootcamp setup if you need the laptop to function correctly. Windows 10 isn’t able to install drivers for MacBook hardware, which means bootcamp must handle that installation during the Windows loading process.
You don’t need any updates for the OS itself, just the keyboard or trackpad. The issue seems to be there.
I think it's everything, like the USB controllers, the storage controllers, everything in the macbook is custom made. I highly doubt the laptop would even boot properly without having windows installed through bootcamp. If you don't want space on OSX you can just set the partition size to the minimum, so it barely takes up any of your drive.
You can remove the OSx section and keep only Windows. The Bootcamp files are merely the drivers, similar to those from Dell, which you can obtain from Apple's support site https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1720?locale=en_US
