Hey, looking into the Ryzen 5500 setup with your RTX 3070. You're wondering about motherboard options beyond PCIe 4.0, extra USB ports, VRMs, and whether B550 or B650 is better. Also, should you wait for the B650 models to drop in price?

The B650 is designed for AM5, so it won't fit a 5500. If you haven't got a DDR4 kit yet, consider the B650 with a 7500 or similar. The 5500 remains the most affordable choice.

plan for full system build? country? current pc specs? unless you're saving a lot on the 5500, go for a used 5600(x) instead. you won't need to adjust your RAM to DDR4 4600+ just to make up for the reduced cache benefit of AM4. The B550 is not worth it unless you can find a good deal and even then the difference from the B450 is minimal except for the outdated PCIe Gen4 B650, which is AM5. You can also consider a Ryzen 8400F at a reasonable price. Boards like the B650M HDV are often affordable and support DDR5 9000+. For a solid setup, go with a good CPU like the HDV and RAM options such as 6000C30/32 or 6400C32.

5500 isn't a great chip, aim for 5600. There aren't many good reasons to buy the old B450 right now—just about $20 less, but fewer features. A lot don't have flashback support and it's PCie3.

In Indonesia the increase from 5500 to 5600 feels like an extra 25-30 dollars for a new setup, which is a nice saving for a few frames. I’m using a B650 with an AM5 chip and an i7-3770 as a temporary fix from my old build. If I switch to AM5, the prices are still high, and even the budget CPUs are still over 100-120 dollars. It’s not an urgent upgrade, just aiming to get the most out of my 3070.
