Hello, you're planning to purchase a new Z690 motherboard for your i9 12900KS with 16 GB DDR4 4800MHz RAM. You're comparing two options: Asus Z690 Strix A D4 and MSI Z690 Gaming Edge D4. Your main concern is which one offers better performance for memory overclocking and general overclocking. Let me know if you need more details!

The Asus is decent, but it's almost the same as others. I’d pick MSI because it’s $100 less at launch and that cash could go toward another setup or a upgrade like dual RAM or Samsung B die memory.

Confirmed and appreciated the reply. The MSI model is just 10 euros cheaper in my area, which makes me think about the ASUS option too.

Fair point, the current prices on the MSI and Asus boards seem inconsistent. With a $250 MSI and $350 Asus, the gap is significant—Asus definitely stands out as a strong option despite the difference. If it's just a few dollars, go with what looks best at that moment; both are solid choices.

I’m moving from a gigabyte Z690 Aorus Elite that only handles basic XMP or DDR4 overclocking, so I expect any upgrade will feel great.
