I wouldn't suggest any second generation Threadripper. Consider a 5950X or a 3960X instead.

second generation Threadripper faces some unusual memory allocation problems due to how the chiplets interact with it, especially on higher corecount models. I wouldn't recommend an older generation. For the same price or even less, you can get a 5950X that outperforms a 2950X.
