Compare AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D with GeForce RTX 3060 Ti to decide between integrated graphics and a dedicated GPU.
Hi everyone,
I’m preparing my first build and it will serve both professional and personal needs. For work, I won’t be handling highly graphics-heavy tasks, but I do have a 45" monitor. Even though the workload isn’t extremely demanding, high resolution is necessary to see everything clearly across the screen. I also plan to add another monitor because my current one is nearly full with millions of windows and tabs, which will increase the graphical load. For personal use, I won’t be playing Alan Wake, and the most demanding game I’d want to run would be BG3.
In this new build, my CPU will run an AMD Ryzen™ 9 9950X3D with built-in graphics. But in the prebuilt version I’m using, it’s a GeForce RTX 3060 Ti. I understand that dedicated GPUs usually perform better since integrated graphics rely on RAM and are less powerful. However, my GPU is relatively older, and I don’t have much data about its performance. I’m uncertain if it will match the integrated graphics’ capabilities. Also, integrated graphics depend heavily on RAM, but with the RAM I’ll have, I should be fine.
Questions:
- Can I run BG3 alongside two ultrawide monitors, each with a dozen windows and many tabs?
- If not, can my CPU’s integrated graphics handle that load?
- In the worst case, if neither meets the requirements, what minimum GPU specs should I aim for?
Thanks!
the graphics card i own is a bit outdated, and there isn't much info about it
the RTX 3060 Ti remains a solid option
i'm not sure if it would beat the built-in graphics performance
the integrated graphics were built into the CPU die by AMD for basic display needs, not for heavy gaming or taxing applications so the iGPU won't surpass the RTX 3060 Ti under those conditions
can i use my current GPU to run BG3 and have two ultrawide monitors with many windows and tabs?
yes
Well, I’m sure I’ll be gaming on it too. I have a 9950x3d to ensure strong performance that will last for a long time. For work, I frequently convert spreadsheets into thousands of pages of PDFs and then run text recognition on them, which means handling around 7,000 to 10,000 pages. This process occurs about five times a month, so I’m converting tens of thousands of pages and running recognition many times that amount. Overall, it will be significantly more powerful, though it will be especially useful when heavy processing is required. Since I rely on this often, I wanted to build something capable of lasting long before performance drops.
Thanks for the reply! I’ve been mainly concentrating on components for processing power, while graphics have always been a lower priority. I’m really excited to still use the GPU I have!
It’s nice to hear it will still be relevant. My only reference was someone I know who used an RTX 5080 with 16GB recently, so compared to that, I thought my setup would be outdated. It’s also good to know I’ll be able to run everything I need on it. It’s funny—the person I know has a much better GPU, so thinking about my own felt like having a nice Mustang but not knowing much about cars, while the other person had a Lambo. The comparisons aren’t perfect, but I hope it clarifies my lack of GPU knowledge, thanks!
