Compare AMD and Intel for your non-gaming PC.
I'm setting up a PC for my dad, who isn't a gamer by any means. The main tasks will involve AutoCAD, Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, and occasionally Premiere Pro. When looking at the i9700k versus the Ryzen 7 3800X on Userbenchmark, Intel appears to be the stronger choice in most scenarios except for those with 64 cores or high thread counts. Would these performance numbers influence this setup?
Essentially every job relies on one thread at a time, making an i7 preferable; however, Lightroom benefits from additional threads, though it's not a major factor.
Always in mind, the Intel edge seems limited... most gains come from being able to push the CPU beyond its limits. Still, comparing the same models directly isn't fair. I’d rather spend less and pick a 3700X AMD instead.
Consider LGA 1151 as nearing its end of service, while AM4 still offers a few more iterations.
Export duration and calculation time are expected to rise, though only a limited extent for many processes.
The capability to handle several tasks at once while using various programs seamlessly and without delays
Seek reliable testing sources like AnandTech or similar platforms to compare performance accurately.
