Compare 8GB RAM in dual-channel setup versus 12GB RAM for better performance.
I possess a HP Pavilion N209TX laptop. The manufacturer specifies a maximum RAM limit of 12GB. I currently use two 4GB modules in both slots. I'm curious about the impact of swapping one 4GB module for an 8GB module of the same speed. I've noticed that using Photoshop, Lightroom, and Adobe Bridge together slows my system down. I think upgrading the processor would help, but since memory usage is high, does that imply the 12GB could boost performance by at least 10-15%? Also, what happens to dual-channel memory? Should I go with the 8GB option?
If you truly require 12GB of RAM and 8GB falls short, go ahead. Running low on memory causes more noticeable slowdowns than reduced speed. Otherwise, it's a matter of preference. You could experience some data transfer limits, but most programs aren't that affected.
