I mostly stick with 7, but I'm confident you'll be satisfied with 8 once you set up the classic shell.

I used W8 for a while and it really performs well, just like RLY nice. I tried it with 2GB RAM and it runs much better than W7. However, I switched back to W7 because some old programs and driver issues popped up, plus a few minor problems since Windows XP. At least it’s simpler with W7. So, you should test both for yourself—not just gaming. I’d recommend going with W8 and stick with it if you don’t run into driver or habit issues.
