You should choose the free version since you're on a budget and don't need a professional edition. You already have Win 8.1 installed, which works well and offers useful features without extra cost.

W8 is the correct version, not 8.1. I don’t have a license for either OS, so I’m unsure how much they differ or are alike.

Beta versions come with many problems, so stick with 7 or 8.1 until something more stable appears. They might be entertaining to experiment with, but if you need a reliable solution, avoid them.

8.1 offers notable benefits in everyday use and gaming scenarios. Quick startup, reduced resource consumption, and enhanced speed are key factors that make Windows 8.1 appealing for many. However, be cautious—those who prefer DiRT 3 or other titles may experience slower performance compared to Windows 7, as noted in recent comparisons. Ultimately, the choice depends on your specific needs and hardware capabilities.

You're still running Windows 8. It seems you prefer sticking with the OS that works best for you.
