I've been using Windows 7 for four years now and am working on a new system for gaming and photo editing. As a photographer, editing photos is a big part of my job. People have mixed views about Windows 8—some like it, others find it confusing. I'm deciding whether to stick with Windows 7 as an OEM version or upgrade to Windows 8. The main issue with Windows 8 is the lack of a start button, which I’m not sure will impact my choice. I don’t have a NAS yet, but once I can afford one, it’s likely to be a priority. Your thoughts would be really helpful. Thanks.
You experience a minor performance improvement in 8 across certain games and can configure it to function similarly to Windows 7. I rely on the standard startup process and direct access to the desktop. I rarely encounter those annoying blocks. Therefore, I opt for setting it up that way.
I would choose Windows 8 mainly for its future support and improved performance compared to Windows 7. Adding third-party start options could significantly enhance the experience. While I generally dislike some of the updates in Windows 8, I plan to switch from 7 soon due to better optimization. I’ll have to adapt by finding workarounds for elements I don’t like, such as using a custom third-party menu.
According to my understanding, Windows 7 includes DX12 support.
It would be helpful to keep track of the latest information, that’s a concern.
