I just missed out on a great deal for a machine with a i7-8565U. Seems like I might have to just deal with a 7700HQ. How much of a performance difference is there really with these 2 for gaming? And how about battery life?

Performance differences will depend on the laptop's cooling capabilities, making direct comparisons tricky. The userbenchmark link isn't helpful here. A gaming graphics card would have a much greater impact.

For larger workloads with effective cooling, the 7700HQ performs better because its higher TDP allows it to handle more clocks. The 8565U reaches roughly 2GHz, whereas the 7700HQ keeps around 3-3.4GHz

According to @5x5, the main hub will surpass it due to its higher TDP. The U chips are suitable only for brief performance spikes, like office tasks. Avoid using a U chip for gaming.
