Compact router ideal for gaming and streaming needs
Background Here, I'm about to rent my first apartment and enjoy streaming on Twitch while gaming. The space won't be huge since it's just me, so what should I prioritize when choosing a router? Main concern is the internet speed—do I need 100/100 unless I plan for something faster later? My goal is to stream at 6k bit rate eventually, though I probably won’t need extra downloads right now. I’m hoping to find a better deal if possible. What I’ve learned so far is that a dual-band router would be ideal, allowing me to use a 5GHz connection for my wireless headphones and phone. My computer will connect via Ethernet, and I don’t expect many other devices to be online. I haven’t bought a TV or much else yet, though I might consider getting a Nintendo Switch someday. Right now I’m thinking about the Asus RT-N66U, but I’m not sure if there are any extra features I should look for beyond dual-band capability.
Hi there, I’ve been using the Asus RT66U for about four years and it just stopped working because it overheated. I think I should have invested more and chosen the 68U instead—it supports AIMesh for better protection, especially since I’m moving into a new house. The Asus has always been reliable, so I’ll be returning to them. In the past, I owned routers like the TP Link, including the WDR 3600 when 5 GHz was introduced. That one didn’t hold up well. Summary: Pick the AC68U.
I understand it wasn't the exact query, but have you confirmed the issue is with the router rather than the PSU? It's possible the device is showing lights but isn't functioning stably to start up.
It's active, operating smoothly. It reacts harshly even to light requests like file transfers or adding more clients. Firmware updates have been applied as well.
