Hi everyone, I'm working on installing a PCIe card into my NAS. After mounting it, the system keeps looping and won't boot into TrueNAS Scale. It reaches the post screen but can't access the Bois or start the installation. Removing the card fixes everything. When I try it in another machine, it works fine. The hardware seems correct—my setup includes an ASRock B550 Taichi AM4 board, AMD Ryzen 7 5700X, RTX 2060, and various PCIe devices. I've tested the card in PCIE2, PCIE3, and PCIE4 slots, even swapping out other cards previously. The X550-T2 network card appears capable of handling lane drops. Anyone have suggestions?

The board displays numerous codes while looping, so I decided to capture the entire cycle. The code labeled "A2" appears most often when the post screen is displayed.

The X550 isn't handling the extra PCIe slot well, especially with the LSI HBA. Adding another PCIe card brings in PCIe 5.0, which might be problematic for it.

I exchanged the X550 with the HBA, yet the outcome remained unchanged.

The update to the bios did not resolve the problem.

Is this component compatible on its own within this setup? I’ve noticed a few motherboard and PCIe cards sometimes failing unexpectedly. AsRock usually tries to assist with such issues.

It's a ten-year-old gadget, so a UEFI or CSM problem might be possible. Have you looked into that?

I'll test these ideas tomorrow morning. (I'm using UK time) I also know a lot about ASRock's assistance. I've already sent them an email.

I question if this relates to UEFI, since an UEFI OPROM seems essential only when the card can be booted from or shown by the UEFI setup. Also, the last time I encountered this, it was clearly before UEFI (Gigabyte EP45 with dual NIC). My guess is that somewhere along the PCIe path, something starts in a way that confuses the other device—likely because the tuner reacts a bit wrong to the motherboard. Other boards, chipsets, or BIOSes might overlook it or manage it differently.

I fully understand. My only encounters with older PCIe devices causing boot issues were with vintage graphics cards. For example, an old 9600GT would fail UEFI support, but swapping it out for another card and reconfiguring could get it to work. I see a video card is different from a capture card, though it’s worth experimenting with.
