Yesterday between 10pm and midnight I experienced roughly 120 distributedcom errors. They appear to occur at about two per second when I receive them. There doesn’t seem to be a link to any specific activity.
When I first assembled my system, the GPU fans would turn off when they weren’t required. After formatting and reinstalling Windows 10, several changes were made compared to the previous setup using the same installation drive. One issue that continues to bother me is the GPU fans. If I reinstall the drivers, they shut down after a Windows restart. Once they resume operation, they don’t restart again without another install. The velocity app seems ineffective. Others don’t seem to notice any impact on the fans either. Previously, just having NVIDIA installed alone worked fine. Now it’s drawing excessive dust from the rear vent near the GPU.
Every time I start my PC or bring it back from sleep, I have to disconnect the HDMI and reconnect it. This happened before the reset but was resolved during a clean installation. This time it isn’t happening. If anyone has faced similar problems, I’d really appreciate hearing about their solutions. My system specs are: Gigabyte X670E Aorus Master, Raspberry Pi 4 model 7950X, 64GB RAM, 6400MHz GSKILL, and a 4080OC motherboard.
I started with a few options—mainly Afterburner and velocity. One more worked but the fans kept running. Once they did, only a fresh driver setup or reinstallation helped. Now I’m using just velocity for occasional overdrive. It doesn’t start automatically. Temperatures stay normal, never exceeding 70 during play, and idle temps are low in the 30s. Fans spin around 900-1000rpm most of the time, reaching about 1300 during gameplay. Perhaps I should remove velocity and do a clean install. I restored everything to its original state. I’m puzzled why it behaves differently now.
I'm not familiar with the term "velocity." But similar issues can arise from various monitoring tools or hardware problems, such as sensors or fans. It could also be related to your graphics card. I don't have enough information to confirm. How long have you been using the video card?
Velocity is PNY's rgb and oc tool. It allows you to set a fan curve anywhere, but it never shuts down completely. It appears the best solution was disabling Velocity, reinstalling the driver, and restarting the PC. Once running in Windows, it functions normally but doesn’t power off. After launching a game, fans start as expected yet remain active. After a fresh boot, they behave correctly again, though they still don’t shut down. Occasionally after rebooting, they repeat the issue. Signalrgb now provides GPU fan control. Previously, all monitoring turned off because it caused excessive noise; I tried that today and it increased speed while lowering voltage to find the stall point. You can see them reach 100% and drop back to around 1000rpm, with the software repeatedly stopping but fans never falling below that threshold. It ends with a zero RPM warning, but they don’t actually stop. There must be something in the background maintaining operation. I suspect the drivers are responsible—they’ve changed across all versions. I’ve had the card about a year ago. Earlier, with the PNY 4070tioc I owned before this model, I faced the same issue until I gave up on OC and reinstalled the driver, which resolved it. They performed as intended. OC seems unnecessary now. Also odd is that after a Windows reinstall, clock speeds stay high even at 0% usage—2550mhz reported, though I didn’t use that setting before. I’m not sure why they don’t drop to idle. Many small differences exist despite using the same drive. I don’t understand it. Lastly, I’ve had the card about a year ago.
I'm unfamiliar with any tracking tools that can generate a zero fan rate curve.
