Common memory issues causing blue screens (XMP/AM5 problems)?
I mistakenly purchased XMP memory for an AMD system and am experiencing frequent blue screens, often around two-thirds of the week. Some error messages appear like MEMORY_MANAGEMENT or FAULTY_HARDWARE_CORRUPTED PAGE. Online discussions suggest XMP memory shouldn't cause problems on AMD boards, but each incident seems linked to RAM issues. People mention it doesn’t affect crashes during heavy tasks like gaming or CAD, though random BSODs occur. The error codes aren’t consistent, but they’re always related to RAM. Windows Memory Diagnostic and MemTest86 passed previously, but results are still unclear. The BSODs seem unstable—sometimes the lower half shows rainbow static, while the top half displays smaller versions of the error screen layered on top. Updates to BIOS, Windows, and RAM have not resolved the problem. Your system’s power supply is solid at 850W with Corsair RM850x. Any advice on preventing these crashes or stabilizing the PC would be appreciated.
Have you verified your SSD and smart data? How fast is it performing? Is memory context restore or power-down turned off? Was this a new setup or an existing one you repurposed? It seems quite outdated, probably from before AM5—this might lead to several problems.
SMART reports everything is normal for my drives, CPU performance around 4700MH/s, RAM speed near 4800MT/s. Both are set to Auto. It was a new installation when I assembled the PC, but I obtained my Windows key from my UNI to bypass the activation process. It seems it matches a standard 22H2 build, even though I got an education edition. I reinstalled it while preserving data to resolve issues with the Microsoft Store and indexing, though those problems reappeared.
XMP and EXPO refer to the same thing—it's a file that the motherboard reads settings from. If your motherboard doesn’t support XMP, it can’t read the file. The two formats exist because you’ve purchased a license from Intel to use the XMP branding, while AMD developed EXPO as an alternative, which is free. Memory issues can come from three main areas: RAM (the primary use), storage (page file acting like extra RAM), and the CPU (memory controller inside the CPU). The exact cause is likely a combination of these factors.
The choices available seem limited. I’d prefer both disabled to confirm there’s no problem. If memory issues arise at that rate, it likely points to faulty RAM. I’d appreciate seeing the full SMART table from tools like CrystalDiskInfo, though it may be outdated. Could you tell me what version of chipset drivers you’re running?

It looks like everything is functioning well so far. Your SSDs show no media errors, which is a positive sign. Have you looked into the Event Viewer for any issues, particularly WHEA errors?
