Common inquiries about PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD performance
Hello, welcome to the forum. I understand this might not be the best spot for your questions, but I have a Samsung 1TB 990 Pro PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD ready for installation. My motherboard is a B450 Tomahawk MAX and only one M.2 slot is available, which is currently occupied by a Samsung 970 M.2 drive. I need to move all my important data from the old SSD to the new one safely. I’m unsure if there’s a reliable method for this transfer. If you have an external tool, what should I look for or purchase? Thank you for your support!
My recommendation is to remove your actual SSD, install the new one and install a fresh Windows on it. Since you are also upgrading your CPU, it is better start with a fresh Windows. Once your computer is up and running, you can put your old SSD in an external NVMe to USB adapter. You can then copy the data to your computer or even keep it on the old SSD and use it as an external drive. Your choice. Here is an example of such an adapter : https://www.amazon.ca/Transparent-Extern...r=8-7&th=1 If you insist on keeping the old windows install (at your own risks), you can look up for Samsung cloning utility or Macrium Reflect. You'll still probably need an external adapter. Good luck !
With Macrium Reflect, simply connect the new SSD through an adapter. Open the software, select the clone drive from the old SSD in the new one, and install the new drive. It should boot without issues if everything is set correctly.
