Hello,

My Desktop has Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium. I recently installed Command & Conquer Generals and receive an error message when attempting to launch the game: "Please ensure you have DirectX 8.1 or a later version installed, and verify that your video card fulfills the minimum requirements." I have enjoyed this game for a long time, but this error began yesterday. Could anyone suggest solutions to resolve this issue? Thank you.

Uninstall the game. Remove all DirectX installations. Reinstall the game. Install DirectX 8.1. Then install DirectX 11 on top of it, which may resolve the issue.

I have experienced similar issues with games requiring DirectX runtime components that were not installed. I resolved these errors by utilizing the DirectX web installer, specifically using the provided link for the installer. This tool installs missing runtime components and then attempting to run the game should resolve the problem.

Hello,

I downloaded the web installer and during installation, I received a message stating “DirectX setup has determined that a newer or equivalent version of DirectX has been installed already. No installation is necessary.” I am unsure how to proceed.

Could you test if operating the game in Windows XP compatibility mode resolves the issue?

Hello,

My PC utilizes an AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series graphics card. My screen resolution is set to 1600 X 900. The game functioned correctly with these settings approximately two weeks ago, but I am now experiencing an error despite testing it in Windows XP Service Pack 2 and 3. Thank you.

Windows 7 should be updated with all available updates, including optional compatibility updates. Reduce the display resolution and check if that resolves the issue. Considering the above steps have not resolved the problem, consider these possibilities: the graphics card may be failing or the power supply is insufficient and not delivering adequate power to the graphics card, which requires at least a 450-watt power supply. It is recommended to have the power supply tested at a computer repair shop. Signs include USB device malfunctions, black screen issues on the monitor, and failure to restart after shutdown.
