Comcast/Xfinity speed limits Throttling issues reported Network performance concerns
I reviewed my plan with Xfinity and managed to lower the cost, including an internet upgrade. The connection speeds I’ve been experiencing were significantly below expectations unless I ran a speed test or checked SpeedTest.net. Fast.com (owned by Netflix) also displayed similar outcomes. When using other services, I rarely exceeded 30Mbps. At the time, the promised speeds were 105 Mbps, and even SpeedTest.net showed around 30 Mbps. After the internet upgrade, download speeds reached 150 Mbps with matching upload speeds. SpeedTest.net isn’t displaying accurate numbers, while Xfinity reports about 180 Mbps. Fast.com shows 170-180 Mbps, whereas other sites consistently show 30 Mbps or less. I’ll add today’s results once the upgrade is complete. Just keep in mind the speed of.me graph climbs quickly but caps near 30 Mbps each time. I’m unsure if this is Xfinity throttling for those sites based on the tests. I space my usage randomly to achieve optimal performance.
What rates do you charge? What device are you connected with? There might be several explanations for problems. I could be a busy hub, a busy connection point, outdated Xfinity gear, etc. Are the tests being performed on wired or wireless setup? You can tell me they don’t really slow things down. We’ve replaced Netflix and PS Vue and haven’t faced any throttling from Comcast nearby. My household uses 700 Gbps monthly, so we’d be the ones they’d target for throttling.
