I'm weary of Comcast's demands and seeking a superior internet provider. Do you have any recommendations?
Only local competition exists for me. My current service is significantly slower than what I receive from AT&T, and it would cost more. I'm going to skip this. I've also enjoyed excellent support from Comcast's customer service.
In the vast northern region known to Americans, we face rivals... Telus (VDSL/FTTH) and Shaw (Cable/FTTN/Future FTTH) are engaging in a price battle across their 150 plans, with rates dropping as low as $50 Canadian Rupees each month.
What?! Luckily... Unfortunately, nothing like that is available here in MB just yet...
Some European nations offer gigabit fiber at around 8 euros per month, roughly 10 dollars.
Start by identifying your provider. Comcast stands out as the top cable service in the US, especially for tech updates. They were early adopters of Docsis 3.1 with gigabit speeds. You likely have Comcast and a less advanced competitor. Unless you reside in a wealthier area where AT&T offers fiber, that’s probably the case.
Choose Fiber, AT&T isn’t the sole option based on where you live. Verizon is also available. (Plus several other carriers) Quick connections aren’t always about speed—it’s about latency. With FTTP you can have the installation ready at your home. When I set that up, searching was in the single digits.
Not straightforward. Verizon offers fiber in around 13 states out of 50, while AT&T is similarly limited. If you prefer a more affluent area, those with resources may not upgrade you. AT&T has faced criticism for neglecting upgrades in low-income neighborhoods. The OP might be lucky to secure a Gigabit Docsis 3.1 connection, but it’s more likely Comcast will handle that.
